BA-IVH Invisa Hatch™ Drywall Inlay Fully Detachable

The BA-IVH Invisa Hatch™ Drywall Inlay Fully Detachable from Best Access Doors provides removable access to concealed building systems in non-rated walls and ceilings.

The door detaches completely from its open hinge design, creating unrestricted workspace for maintenance, repairs, or equipment installation. A simple push on the touch latch releases the door, while built-in safety chains control it as it separates from the frame.

This access panel features a welded, high-grade aluminum frame and door. Its recessed design accepts ½" or ⅝" drywall inlay while maintaining a minimal 1/16" reveal between frames. A white foam perimeter gasket seals the opening when closed. For installations in damp or variable environments, moisture- and mildew-resistant greenboard comes standard.

Whether you need standard or custom sizing, the BA-IVH adapts to your project. Its standard sizes range from 8" x 8" to 30" x 30", while custom dimensions accommodate openings up to 73" on one side for walls or 40" × 40" for ceilings (160" maximum perimeter).

Why Should You Use the BA-IVH

  • Removes Completely for Full Access: The open hinge design lets you detach the entire door from the frame. This gives adequate clearance for installing larger equipment, running new utilities, or performing extensive repairs.
  • Seals Against Environmental Conditions: A white foam perimeter gasket creates a tight seal when closed, while moisture- and mildew-resistant greenboard handles humid environments without additional waterproofing
  • Disappears Into Finished Surfaces: Once the drywall inlay is installed and painted to match the surrounding walls, the 1/16" reveal and concealed hardware become virtually undetectable.
  • Operates Without Visible Hardware: Touch latches eliminate the need for pull handles or recessed grips that would interrupt the finished surface. Safety chains prevent the door from dropping or swinging uncontrollably as it separates from the frame.
  • Scales Beyond Standard Dimensions: Match the panel to your actual rough opening rather than modifying the framing. The BA-IVH’s custom sizing accommodates up to 73" on one side for walls or 40" × 40" for ceilings.

Installation Instructions

  1. Choose the Location: Mark the installation spot and note nearby studs or joists. Measure the inner frame dimensions and add ¾" (9mm) to each side to get the rough opening.
  2. Mark and Cut the Opening: Draw two perpendicular baselines on the wall or ceiling, 1¼"–4" (32–102mm) from any stud or joist. Check that the lines are square, then cut a clean opening using a drywall saw or utility knife.
  3. Mount the Panel: Pass the access panel through the opening and pull it back firmly into place. Fasten it with screws through the drywall into the panel frame, no more than 4" (102mm) apart.
  4. Test and Compound: Open the door to confirm it swings freely, then apply drywall compound separately to the hatch and wall.
  5. Attach the Safety Cable: Secure the safety cable, then clean the frame and door with a damp cloth.
