F1 Drywall Inlay Panel with Fixed Hinges – FF Systems

The F1 Drywall Inlay Panel with Fixed Hinges from FF Systems is a flush, drywall access panel with concealed hardware and a 1/16" reveal between aluminum frames. This model provides access to plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems behind finished walls and ceilings. It accommodates ½" (12.7 mm) or ⅝" (15.8 mm) drywall and becomes invisible once painted to match the surrounding surface.

Designed for both wall and ceiling installations, the drywall inlay access panel offers flexible configuration options. In wall applications, the door can open left-to-right, right-to-left, or top-to-bottom. For ceiling installations, latches must be positioned away from adjacent walls to allow proper operation. The required rough opening size is calculated as the door dimensions plus ⅜" per side.

The F1 operates with touch latches and safety chains or cables. Optional lock hardware can be added for secure access control. The panel ships ready-to-paint. For openings exceeding 40" x 40", a double-door configuration is available for wall installations up to 80" x 40".

Why Should You Use the F1?

  • Flush, Concealed Integration: A precise 1/16" reveal allows the panel to sit flush within the drywall surface. Once painted, it blends into the surrounding finish and preserves clean architectural lines in visible areas.
  • Flexible Opening Orientation: The fixed hinge design supports left, right, or downward opening in wall applications, allowing installers to select the most practical swing direction based on space constraints and access requirements.
  • Controlled and Secure Access: Touch latches enable quick entry, while integrated safety chains or cables prevent uncontrolled door movement. This added control is especially important for ceiling installations and high-traffic environments.
  • Expanded Opening Capability: For larger wall openings, a double-door configuration is available up to 80" x 40", providing full access without a center mullion while maintaining the same concealed appearance.
  • Project-Specific Sizing Options: Single-door panels are available up to 40" x 40" (160" perimeter). Custom sizing allows one dimension to exceed 40", provided the total perimeter remains within limits, accommodating non-standard access requirements.

Installation Instructions

  1. Plan the Location: Identify where the panel will go, noting nearby studs or joists. Measure the inside frame dimensions and add 3/8" (9mm) to each side for the rough opening.
  2. Mark the Opening: Draw two 90° baselines on the wall or ceiling, positioned 1¼"–4" (32–102mm) from a stud or joist. Mark opposite sides using the adjusted measurements, ensuring all lines are perfectly square.
  3. Cut the Opening: Use a drywall saw, utility knife, or drywall cutter to cut along the marked lines. Keep the edges clean and precise.
  4. Secure the Panel: Insert the panel through the opening and pull it firmly back. Drive screws through the drywall into the panel frame, spacing them no more than 4" (102mm) apart.
  5. Finish and Test: Confirm the door opens correctly, then apply drywall compound. Install the safety cable and wipe down the frame and door with a damp cloth.

When architectural design calls for invisible access without compromising durability or operation, the F1 Drywall Inlay Panel with Fixed Hinges from FF Systems delivers a solution suitable for walls and ceilings.
